Patrizia Casagranda presents her impressive Sculptural Dot Paintings, a unique technique that blends classical portraiture with a contemporary visual language.
Using a three-dimensional dot grid, she transforms portraits of women into powerful symbols of strength and dignity. Instead of traditional canvases, she employs recycled materials such as shipping crates, cardboard boxes, burlap sacks, and military tents. Through a complex process involving 15 to 20 layers, she applies pigments to layers of mortar and plaster, creating relief surfaces that exist in the space between painting and sculpture.
Her work has received numerous awards and exhibitions internationally, including the Lorenzo Il Magnifico Prize at the Florence Biennale, the Spotlight Award at Art Expo New York, and the Golden Art Award at the Biennale de l'Est.
Her exhibitions have taken her from Dubai to London and New York. In 2026, her works will be published in the MoMA (Museum of Modern Art) yearbook in New York and presented to a wide audience at the Pontedera Museum as part of the Banksy & Friends exhibition.
For this exhibition, Casagranda created a new interpretation of Banksy's Balloon Girl: girls from around the world, from Asia to Europe to Africa, catch the heart-shaped balloon instead of letting it float away—a touching message of peace and a sign of hope.
We invite you to meet the strong women that Casagranda has portrayed in timeless portraits of feminine power.
