Born in 1928 in Paris and died in 1999 in Tourtour, in the south of France.  He followed the teaching of the Beaux-Arts of Paris which he returned at the age of fifteen years.  In 1946, he exhibited his first painting, a self-portrait, at the Salon des moins de vingt ans, and the following year he exhibited at the Salon des Independants. The State bought him a work for the National Museum of Modern Art in Paris. He is only twenty-nine years old.  He won the Critics' Prize several times and in 1955 he won first place in the referendum organized by the journal Connaissance des arts, designating the ten best painters of the post-war period.  His rise is blazing. His success will never be denied. Elected to the Academy of Fine Arts on March 13, 1974, Bernard Buffet will be the youngest academician. Bernard Buffet, diminished by Parkinson's disease, commits suicide on October 4, 1999 in his studio in Tourtour in Var.

The Museum of Modern Art of the City of Paris organizes a retrospective Bernard Buffet late 2016 early 2017, and the museum of Montmartre, where Bernard Buffet lived several years. He has exhibited in the world entirer, and is one of the most famous expressionist artists. He has a museum dedicated to him in Japan.
