Lithograph.

This work subtly illustrates Krüger’s chromatic universe: a solitary figure in a canoe, an enchanting, minimalist atmosphere, rendered in soft and harmonious tones. It perfectly reflects his aesthetic—between suggestive abstraction and poetic figuration.

Biography of Thomas A. Krüger (1918–1984)

Thomas A. Krüger, born in 1918 in Osnabrück and deceased in 1984, was a German painter and graphic artist renowned for works that subtly combine abstraction and figuration.

Training and Influences

A self-taught artist, Krüger nevertheless refined his style through studies with Wilhelm Renfordt between 1948 and 1950, and later with Otto Pankok from 1952 to 1953. He also attended Oskar Kokoschka’s Sommerakademie in Salzburg from 1962 to 1966, where he was awarded the prestigious Oskar-Kokoschka Prize.

Career and Exhibitions

His talent enabled him to exhibit in numerous renowned galleries around the world, notably in Rome, Paris, Bangkok, São Paulo, Salzburg, and Haarlem. Alongside his international career, Krüger was deeply engaged in the local art scene: he directed the regional group of the BBK (Bundesverband Bildender Künstlerinnen und Künstler) in Osnabrück from 1968 to 1978. In this role, he organized major exhibitions and actively supported emerging artists such as Maria Feldkamp, Erika Rußwinkel-Schulz, Reinhard Klink, Ingrid Deventer, and Elisabeth Ossendorf.

Notable Works

His body of work includes both paintings and lithographs, where the sobriety of form meets the poetic intensity of atmosphere. Among his most significant creations are the lithographs Die blaue Küste (1974), Einschnitt (1974), and 30 Teile (1974), as well as the painting Herbstwald (1974).
