M. Chat is the pseudonym of Franco-Swiss artist Thoma Vuille, born in 1977 in Boudry, Switzerland. He is best known for his iconic yellow cat, instantly recognizable by its wide mischievous grin and sometimes depicted with wings.

The character first appeared in 1997 on the walls of Orléans, while Vuille was still a student at the School of Fine Arts. Very quickly, the cheerful feline spread across many French and international cities (Paris, London, New York, Hong Kong…), becoming a true symbol of street art.

Through this bright and benevolent figure, M. Chat seeks to bring a message of optimism and humanity into urban spaces. Over the years, he has taken part in numerous artistic projects, exhibitions, and collaborations, while remaining true to the accessible and popular spirit of graffiti.

Today, the smiling yellow cat is recognized as one of the key icons of European street art, bringing poetry and lightness to the everyday cityscape.
