PURE EVIL

Acrylic painting on canvas.

Size 100 x 100 cm.

Original and unique artwork.

Pure Evil is an artist born in 1968 in Wales. Direct descendant of the philosopher Thomas More (inventor of the concept of Utopia).

Despite a childhood immersed in an artistic universe (son of an expressionist painter), he admits "having spent quite a bit of time avoiding becoming an artist". He studied fashion and computer graphics in London. After his studies he decided to settle in California to escape from his ruined country after the Margaret Thatcher regime. In the 1990s he lived on the West Coast and worked for the clothing brand Anarchic Adjustment. He made printed t-shirts and rubbed shoulders with the electronic music scene in San Francisco, where he was a DJ. He skated, and participated in many raves taking a lot of psychedelic drugs. He has recorded albums for the record label FAX (based in Germany). Then, expelled from America, he returned to England.

In California he tagged "MURDERERS" on gun stores and "DUMP BUSH" on highways. In London, He equipped himself with a bomb and began to paint vampire rabbits with fangs, childhood memories of an afternoon in the countryside: with cousins, he had borrowed a hunting rifle and shot a rabbit who hadn't even tried to run away. It had haunted him to the point of symbolizing his guilt in this graphic.

One of his most noteworthy works is his hijacking of the Sergeant Pepper cover, where he replaced all the characters with famous dictators.

For its pop icons, Pure Evil draws its inspiration from old vampire films in black and white: "I like that in my work you have to scratch the surface to find darkness".

His images have a very strong symbolism, with many interwoven meanings. "A powerful image is sometimes as simple as a tag made in seconds, something whose simplicity strikes you. "

Pure Evil sees the artist as a committed and critical being of society. He likes to get messages across and sees street art as the counterpart to pop art from the 60s. He claims to be and remains a graffiti artist; for him, it’s very important to be in the act.

Today Pure Evil is a global brand. Artist, gallery owner and composer, he hosts a monthly radio program, organizes and participates in numerous workshops and conferences.

He has exhibited in the USA, Russia, Brazil, South Africa, Europe.
