Shepard Fairey is one of the most famous street artists in the world and is often called "Obey" in reference to "Obey Giant" of the artistic series that he launched in 1998.
"Obey" was an inscription he associated with the stylized face of the French-born wrestler André the giant. Today, this symbol is on all the works of Shepard Fairey.
His style inspired by propaganda posters of the USSR is recognizable by all and his commitments are numerous in both politics and the environment.
His posters for sale on this site are made on recycled paper.
/// DESMOND TUTU///
Along with Nelson Mandela, Desmond Tutu was the symbol of the fight against apartheid in South Africa.
Born on October 7, 1931, in a town west of Johannesburg. His mother was a domestic worker and his father was a primary school principal. He initially worked as a teacher before resigning in 1957 to denounce the new discriminatory measures affecting the education of Black people.
He then began studying theology in the Anglican Church and was ordained a priest in 1971, at the age of 30. Four years later, he became the first Black person to become dean of the Diocese of Johannesburg, and later the first Black Archbishop of Cape Town. Refusing to submit to the constraints of segregation, he chose to settle in the township of Soweto.
In 1978, he became the first Black leader of the South African Council of Churches (SACC). He organized marches against segregation, preached against the racist Pretoria regime, and advocated for international sanctions, while urging discriminated Black populations to exercise restraint and adopt pacifism. This uncompromising fight earned him the Nobel Peace Prize in 1984, which served as protection against the regime's intimidation and spared him a prison sentence.
