ANDRE ROUSSARD BIOGRAPHY

50 years in Montmartre

50 years of painting

Montmartre, cradle of Modern Art, is a land of legend.

This is where André Rousssard built his life. An eminent figure of Montmartre from the second half of the 20th century, this entire period of the history of the Butte, little known, comes to life in this book. André Roussard was the main actor. It is at the origin of the Place du Tertre as it is thought today, the greatest festivities, exhibitions among the most important.

His gallery, a true family history, has been established since 1948 on the Butte. He was a merchant of paintings from 1963 to his death in 2013, and has experienced the transition from classical painting to contemporary painting, the vicissitudes of art and its market during the second half of the twentieth century. This saga is also told through this book. Montmartre and painting are inextricably linked and were André's two great loves.
